Abstract:
Kalma, D. 1998. Embeddedness in the Boquet River (Essex County, New York): 1997 Results and analysis of 1993-1997 data. Boquet River Association, Essex County Government Center, Box 217, Elizabethtown NY 12932, 21p.
Embeddedness is the percentage to which a cobble sized rock is embedded in the sand and other fine materials in the streambed. Excessive embeddedness may have a negative impact on streams. In this study 27 sites were measured for embeddedness. Statistical analyses were performed which indicate that the local bottom slope is the most important factor determining local variations in the amount of embeddedness. The amount of embeddedness was slightly, though statistically significantly, greater in the 1994 and 1995 than in the 1996 and 1997.
