1997 BRASS PROJECTS

(Two projects not described in other past newsletter articles are briefly mentioned below.)

The fish spillway and "pool digger" built by NYSDEC some 25 years ago was reconstructed with logs and stone, and new hemlock planking for the spillway.

An experimental erosion control project was initiated in Elizabethtown near the Pratt Lumber mill, with assistance from the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service. Hemlock logs were secured at angled intervals along the bank slope with duck bill anchors and cable. Hopefully, the logs will break high flow current velocity and withstand ice flows so the bank can be re-vegetated.
