Up above Palmer Brook, a tributary to the AuSable, are very sand soils and a private road to a golf course. During the flood following the Ice Storm, a 300-foot underground drain pipe of 4-foot diameter was plugged by debris and soil, causing flooding of properties. Highway Superintendent Leo Trombley had to tear up the road and replace a good section of the 4-foot diameter drain. In the process, with FEMA funds, Leo constructed an uphill ditch turn-out and sediment basin, and a concrete check dam before the beginning of the underground drain. But, to keep these new features working and the drain from becoming plugged in another storm, something had to be done with the private golf course road consisting of sand at the top of the hill.

The private road has been re-graded and re-surfaced, and the downslope ditch has been treated with fabric and stone.
