WE NEED YOU TO "SPOT" WEATHER

The National Weather Service in Burlington is looking for people to be trained as weather "spotters"--people who will take rainfall measurements, report severe weather conditions, observe river ice formations, or take depth measurements of snow pack in the mountains. This information will help the Burlington office interpret and determine patterns, warn others of severe storms, and predict flooding potential.

If enough people from various parts of the Boquet watershed want to become "spotters," BRASS can get a far better understanding of how weather affects levels of discharge throughout the Main Stem and all the tributaries. You don't have to be a member of BRASS to participate in this training.

Training will be on Thursday, September 27, from 4:00 to 6:00 P.M. at the Hand House in Elizabethtown. Steve Hogan, meterologist for the National Weather Service will provide training for the first hour in measuring and assessing severe weather conditions. Those interested in assessing river ice and measuring mountain snow pack will be trained from 5:00-6:00 by hydrologist Greg Hanson.

People are welcome to attend both sessions, but should call Robin Ulmer (873-3688) or email rulmer@co.essex.ny.us so we can tell the National Weather Service how much equipment to bring.
